The archipelago, whose shape is reminiscent of a butterfly, consist of two main islands (Basse-Terre and Grande-Terre). Off the coast, but not too far, are located the islands Marie-Galante and La Désirade. Finally, a small archipelago located south, named the Saintes, completes this territorial whole. All those islands, although different, share many similarities.
